I saw some kites a few miles down the beach, grabbed my car keys and drove as fast as I could down to Mears state park. I met Mary and Bruce, then 65, and they were kiteboarders. I had always wanted to learn how to kiteboard and they invited me to join them in Hatteras, North Carolina for a trip with other kiters. That was four years ago. They’re still kiting with the young guns and showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. I’m inspired by their hospitality and outgoingness. Here is a group shot from week one of four.
